Shazam! in 2019 dispensed with the gloomy storylines that had descended over the DC films and instead brought us a film that was light funny and hugely enjoyable,
Now Shazam is back in Shazam! Fury Of The Gods. A bigger, longer but not necessarily better sequel. This time Shazam (Zachary Levi) and is family of superheroes are pitted against the daughters of Atlas ((Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu) who have come to earth to take back Shazam’s powers.
Much like the recent Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Shazam! Fury of The Gods rather than keeping it fun and easy going tries to pound our senses with sometimes questionable CGI. Some of the flying scenes look no better than when Christopher Reeves was flying through the air as Superman back in 1978.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods certainly isn’t as bad as the aforementioned Ant-Man. Whilst it might not be up to the standards of the original, Fury of The Gods still has enough action and humour packed in to it’s not inconsiderable running time, it stretches to 2 hours and 10 minutes, to keep all but the most critical of superhero fans happy.
